Surgery on Laparoscopic correction of urinary incontinence awarded the first prize

The state chapter of IAGE (Indian Association of Gynaecological Endoscopists) was
conducted recently at Coimbatore on 21.10.2019.

Dr.Devi of GEM Hospital had presented a video on the Laparoscopic correction of
Urinary incontinence (Laparoscopic para vaginal cystocele repair and laparoscopic Bursch
colposuspension), for which she was awarded the first prize. The procedure was well
appreciated by the surgical fraternity.

25% of Indian women suffer from urinary incontinence, out of which 55% is stress
urinary incontinence Surgical results as equivalent to mesh repair has been performed in
GEM Hospital, for those patients who prefer laparoscopic suturing over mesh repair.Unlike
surgeries which involves the use of mesh, correction of stress urinary incontinence using
laparoscopic suturing completely eliminates the mesh complications. It is a day care
procedure with faster recovery and better quality of life.

Our scientific paper on laparoscopic cystocele and stress urinary incontinence
correction has been published in the Internationally renowned journals (JOGI Journal of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, India).

Dr.Saranya Ravi and Dr.R. Karthikha, of GEM Hospital also grabbed the first prize
in the quiz competition in the same conference.
